A major exhibition on the past,
present and future of the City of London
as a centre for international trade.
The Walbrook Building, London EC4
21 June to 9 September 2012
Tuesday - Sunday 11am to 5.30pm, Friday until 7pm
Twin walking tours, led by the Blue Badge Guides, covering both eastern and western areas of the City, will look at the interplay of new and old architecture, demonstrating the complexity of inserting new ideas and developments into the dense urban fabric of the City’s medieval street-plan.
Saturday 11 August, 14.00-15.30
Covering ground between Bank Junction and St Paul's Cathedral, this walk, led by the Blue Badge Guides, illustrates the City planning authorities willingness to take architectural risks. We encounter striking visual contrast with the placement of uncompromising contemporary designs adjacent to Grade 1 listed buildings, and consider the planning process that led to approval. Amongst numerous practices with projects under-construction and completed in the western city are OMK, Eric Parry Architects and Jean Nouvel.
